The seven species is a popular motif in all Judaica items because they symbolize growth, abundance and fertility. The seven species of Israel consist of two grains: wheat and barley and five fruits, namely: grapes, pomegranate, fig, date and olives. Pomegranates are a popular motif for many reasons; some of them being that the pips represent fertility and are reminiscent of the 613 Mitzvoth in the Torah.
